It’s back to school time which means it’s back to routine time. By the end of the summer lots of us are craving a return to normal bedtimes, schedules and teachers to keep our children busy but it can be hard to get back into the routine after so long off. Here are some simple tips to make the transition a little easier.

sleep schedule

1.    Sleep schedule
This one isn’t just for the little ones, this is for all the family. It’s easy to get the children to bed and then stay up late yourself to get jobs done, watch a little tv and look at the internet but take September as a time to reset and give yourself a bedtime too. Everyone benefits from a little extra sleep.

2.    Meal prep
Double up on large dinners once or twice a week and use the leftovers for lunches and freezer fillers to be used on busy days. Things like pasta pesto can be used cold as the base for delicious pasta salads for lunch boxes and cooked chicken can make healthy sandwich fillers or be used for fast dinners like quesadillas, easy pies and quick stews mid-week.

3.    Plan ahead
Get a grip on the next day the night before to avoid hectic, stress filled mornings. Have a calendar in the kitchen of PE days, afterschool activities and themed school days that you can refer to easily and get everything packed up before bedtime. It should help reduce the amount of time spent shouting about missing tracksuits in the car!

4.    Helping out
Give everybody old enough jobs that they’re responsible for. Everyone should take their own lunchbox from their bag and put it in the sink. Laundry should be put in the right wash basket, special equipment for activities should be minded. If everyone in the house is responsible for helping out everything should run a little smoother.

5.    Give everyone a boost
