Hormonal Breakouts?

 

We look at how to tackle pesky monthly breakouts.  

Ever feel like a big pot of hormonal soup? With complex feelings and symptoms bubbling up from underneath? Ok perhaps that’s a bit dramatic but then so is what can happen to our bodies, emotions and even faces each month. Many of us can experience hormonal breakouts at some stage during the month around the chin and jawline.

So what can we do?

1. Gently wash the face twice a day to remove dead skin cell and avoid clogging.

2. Try tea tree oil. Mix it in a 1:12 ratio with a carrier oil such as jojoba or olive oil and do a 24 hour patch test first.

3. Choose foods that combat inflammation. Cucumber, celery and green tea are great choices, as are Omega 3-rich oil fish such as salmon and mackerel. Fresh fruit and veg are full of important anti-oxidants. Aim for at least eight servings a day.

4. Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) helps to maintain normal, healthy skin. Find it in beef liver, lamb, milk, mushrooms, almonds and spinach or choose a good quality supplement.

5. Eating a diet with adequate zinc may help with breakouts. Choose seafood, cashews, pumpkin seeds, quinoa, lentils and beef for zinc.

6. Vitamin A is another important one. Find it in leafy greens and orange fruits and veg such as sweet potato, carrots, butternut squash and apricots.

Solutions may not be instant, but they are out there. With a little bit of extra self-care, you can look and feel better every day of the month.
